Title: Go on a diet Life can be difficult as it is. Why make it harder on yourself? I say, go on a
diet. You say, but Jeff, diets don't work. I say, true, diets to lose weight don't typically work. But, we are talking a different diet here. We are talking going on a news diet. Or even a news fast. Why? We are inundated with information. All day long, everyday. Potentially 24/7. A lot of what comes at us is negative. I actually prefer the word toxic, because it is toxic to our systems. Too much toxic crap coming at us impacts our mood, attitude, and our behaviors. There is a direct relationship there. A toxic system is bad. A toxic system makes life difficult. Personally, I usually don't watch the news or read the newspaper. I typically grab a Sunday paper so I have a good idea of what is going on. Occasionally I will watch the news. But, that is it. When big things happen, people talk about them. Or I catch them online. Or somebody emails me something. This works for me. This simplifies my life because I don't spend time watching the news and reading newspapers daily. This makes life easier. An even bigger benefit is the fact I am not feeding my system with toxic stuff all day long. I wake up with gratitude, not to the latest bad news. I nourish my soul with uplifting, inspirational material. I have a friend who came to me a month ago. She was suffering from nightmares in a big way. Nothing traumatic had happened, they just started happening. I suggested she stop reading the paper and watching the news, at least before she went to bed. She said she would try this. I said give it at least a month. Guess what, after two weeks she came running up to me saying her nightmares had stopped and she was nightmare free for two weeks. All because she quit putting negativity into her head before going to sleep. If you put this crap in your head, then go to sleep it rattles around in your brain all night. It can easily increase anxiety. You could wake up feeling anxious, and not know why. The mind has to do something with the information you feed it. Often it comes out in bodily symptoms. The bottom line point: stop feeding negativity/toxicity into yourself. Your Life Is Easy Coach, Jeffrey A. Betman, Ph.D. P.S.
